The Sable Moon

Crown Prince Trevyn completes a quest during which he is enslaved and freed, studies to become a sorcerer, visits the land of elves, and returns home to save his kingdom. This book is preceded by The White Hart (1979) and The Silver Sun (1980, 1983, revised from The Book of Suns, 1977). It is followed by The Black Beast (1982, 1986) and The Golden Swan (1983). The latter two books were published together as The Book of Vale (1985).
